Whats in your bin...

Maggots, E. coli 0157 and Campylobacter jejuni can live and breed in your bin. Regular cleaning and disinfecting prevents/kills bacteria breeding in your bin.

Campylobacter Jejuni - A species of curved, rod-shaped, Gram-negative bacteria commonly found in animal feces. One of the most common causes of human diarrhea in the world. Food poisoning caused by Campylobacter species is rarely life-threatening but can be severely debilitating. It has been linked with subsequent development of the neurodegenerative disease Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) which usually develops two to three weeks after the initial illness.

Escherichia Coli (E. coli) - A species of bacteria living in the lower intestines of mammals, known as gut flora. When located in the large intestine, it assists with waste processing, vitamin K production, and food absorption. Discovered in 1885 by Theodor Escherich, a German pediatrician and bacteriologist, E. coli are abundant: the number of individual E. coli bacteria in the feces that a human defecates in one day averages between 100 billion and 10 trillion. However, the bacteria are not confined to this environment and the E. coli strain O157:H7 is one of hundreds of strains of the bacterium that causes illness in humans.

Maggots - The larval stage of the fly life cycle, known for eating decomposing flesh. Sometimes "maggot" is used to refer to the larval stage of any insect.
